S1 E3: Fresh Track Fridays | Winter Weather Driving
This week we are focusing on safe winter driving, and we want you to know how important it is to be prepared when traveling in the mountains. Being prepared means topping off fluids like antifreeze, wiper fluid, and gas before you travel. Essential items to always have on hand are:
- Flashlight
- Jumper Cables
- Abrasive material (sand, kitty litter, even floor mats)
- Shovel
- Snow Brush
- Ice Scraper
- Warning Devices (ex. Flares)
- Blankets
- Snacks
- Water
- Medication
- Cell Phone
And don’t forget to test your brakes beforehand to see how they do in the snow, as well as driving slowly and safely around turns. Thank you so much for watching this week’s Fresh Track Friday, and we look forward to bringing you more information next week!
If you’re unsure what the conditions will be like for the day and you want to plan ahead, make sure you always check CalTrans for up to date road closures and chain control status before heading up to the resort. And you can always check the daily snow report here for mountain conditions and up to date weather information from Sierra-at-Tahoe, every morning.
