Jamie Anderson Signature Session

It is always nice to end on a high note and this past week we did exactly that! We held a private shoot for team rider, X Games gold medalist and the unbeatable Jamie Anderson. The park wasn't only built for Jamie but 15 of her closest friends as well, who happen to be the best female snowboarders in the world.

Jamie Sends It Into the Night Sky

The private park featured a large log jib, large butter pad, large jump, urban rail features, wall ride, large tree tap, and huge 65 ft gap jump. The girls threw down all week and absolutely destroyed each feature. Female snowboarding is defiantly progressing at an exponential rate thanks to girls like our own Jamie Anderson.

Brian Walker

Jamie was also kind enough to let our team session the jump one day so some of the boys got to get after it. The jump and private park were on point each day thanks to the Terrain Park staff that worked countless hours all season long to give guests the best park(s) on the South Shore. Thanks for your work throughout the season.

Cheers to the Best Park Staff Around

Stay tuned for a season wrap up video coming soon. Thanks for a great season.

Sierra Athletes Dominate Winter X

3 Athetles, 3 Podiums! It's safe to say Sierra experienced major success this past weekend in Aspen, CO at Winter X Games 16.

Jamie Anderson took home gold in Women’s Snowboard Slopestyle, giving her a total of three X Games gold medals (2007, 2008, 2012). Anderson dominated the field earning the highest score in Women’s Snowboard Slopestyle history with a 95.33. She straight slayed it...

In only her second X Games appearance, Maddie Bowman took home silver in Women’s Ski Superpipe. Bowman continued her dominating 2012 competition campaign that includes earning second place at the North Face Park and Pipe and first place at the Dew Tour in Killington, VT.

Watch Maddie's Run Here... http://espn.go.com/video/clip?id=espn:7513682

Finally, X Games veteran Hannah Teter stood on the podium with a bronze in Women’s Snowboard Superpipe. Teter adds to her already impressive list of snowboard accomplishments, including Olympic gold medal and bronze medals.

Congrats to the ladies.

Maddie Bowman turned a few heads over the weekend and made a BIG splash into the women's freeskiing scene. How you might ask? She took home first place at the Dew Tour Women's Ski Superpipe Finals in Killington, VT. Although she's no stranger to the podium (she took second a week earlier in Whistler at the North Face Open) this was Maddie's first marquee win.

Sierra Gets National Recognition

We don't like to brag or anything but we can't begin to tell you how stoked we are to be recognized by TransWorld SNOWboarding in their 2012 Resort Poll. We like to think we have a pretty good mountain, great parks, amazing value, awesome snow, and an unbeliveable vibe, TransWorld seems to think the same. Year after year we strive to be one of the best and it's an honor to be recognized by an awesome publication like TransWorld

Resort Poll Coverage

The Resort Poll ranks mountains based on mountain features such as parks and pipe, terrain, and other areas such as vibe, snowfall, lodging, food, and etcetera.

“Every year we ask our readers to rank the best three resorts they rode at in the last year, judging everything from jumps to grooming to rail variety. TransWorld readers have voted Sierra-at-Tahoe into the Resort Poll Top 10 year after year. Our readers love the parks and powder, and the resort consistently ranks in Top 10 Vibe. You know the vibe is good just by the popularity of the Sierra-at-Tahoe hoodies—their riders are loyal.” said TransWorld Editor-in-Chief Annie Fast.

The rankings speak to the commitment by Sierra to creating and maintaining innovative freestyle terrain that appeals to an ever-growing demographic of skiers and snowboarders.

Designed, built, and maintained throughout the season by Snow Park Technology (SPT) trained operators, who are the lead innovators in the industry, the freestyle terrain at Sierra offers an experience that caters to the young and old, first-time jibbers and seasoned park riders, families and college students alike.

Sierra Resort was recognized among the Top 10 Best Parks in the nation, earned by scoring high in specific categories like jump and rail design, grooming, variety of features, overall vibe, and park challenge. Sierra also landed in the top ten for the following categories:

TransWorld SNOWboardingTransWorld SNOWboarding

The cumulative rankings for Sierra-at-Tahoe Resort are:

  • #7 Overall Resort
  • # 10 Best Park
  • #9 Best Pipe
  • #2 Best Value
  • #6 Best Vibe
  • #9 Best Snow

Sierra Resort General Manager, John Rice commented “Sierra is honored that TransWorld’s readers would consider us one of the top resorts in the country. Our commitment to quality parks starts with our staff and, in return, benefits our world-class athletes and faithful riders who call Sierra home. To be recognized as one of the best makes it all worthwhile.”

Sierra-at-Tahoe Resort is proud to be among TransWorld SNOWboarding’s top resorts year after year, after year.

So where do we go from here? Up! We are stoked to build on our success and continue to commit ourselves to building the best mountain and parks in the Nation. Make sure to pick up a copy of the mag or visit transworld.snowboarding.net for all things snowboarding.

Sierra Athletes Throwdown to Remember the Biggest Season Ever

What will you remember about the 2010/11 season? First thought- snow! This winter marked the biggest snow winter in recorded Sierra history. Chest deep pow days aside, all that snow gave the Terrain Park Program plenty to work with. Our Superpipe was built earlier than ever, The Aspens jump line was born and after a lot of digging, Bashful and The Alley spawned fresh multi-features. Sierra team riders and skiers celebrated all this glory with a private session on one of Terrain Park's larger creations. Watch, enjoy, and may the season of 10/11 never be forgotten!

Photo Shoot Season Has Arrived

Every spring, Sierra hosts numerous production companies, mags and teams for photo and film shoots. It seems like we get growing requests for more shoots and bigger builds each season. Maybe it's the Cali sun or the deep snow. Perhaps the industry has a particular faith and trust in Sierra's Terrain Parks program. Regardless, this is a time that I very much enjoy. There's nothing that makes me happier than to watch Olympians and massively accomplished riders blast our features, compliment the Park team's creativity and enjoy the Sierra love. I imagine the hectic scheduled and pressures these kids have endure all season long. To see them kick back and smile right here at our own Sierra- it's priceless.

Currently, we are hosting a group of TransWorld photographers and filmers, along with some of their favorite riders, for a magazine and online feature you will see shortly. Known as Park Sessions, this shoot gets pro riders into the same parks you enjoy. I have a special appreciation for the guys that are here right now. I've known Luke Mitrani, Jack Mitrani and Danny Davis from their early snowboard academy days in Vermont. I've watched them grow up to become pipe dominators, but more so, great guys with an air of camaraderie and an overall fun attitude. The best part of today's shoot was their big stoked smiles after lapping The Alley and ripping the pipe. Photo shoot season has arrived and I'm ecstatic to have my favorite riders shredding our parks, sharing an experience with them that makes us proud to be Sierra locals.

700 is Today's Lucky Number!

The number of the day is 700. No, it's not the 700c wheel on your hipster fixie or the busted 700 snowmobile that your homie dumped in  your yard. 700 is inches, as in snowfall to date at Sierra-at-Tahoe for the 2010-2011 season! That's 37 pow days, 123 days of continuous shred, and countless face shots. Bust out your snorkel and jump into the deepest deeps in years.

Heavy Winter Weather Was No Contender for the 5th Annual Buckle Up Slopestyle Jam

Each March, the entire Sierra-at-Tahoe family joins forces to host the Buckle Up Slopestyle Jam in a sentimental effort to spread seatbelt safety awareness to local teens and to celebrate the life of one time Sierra Resort athlete, Greg Smith. Leading up to the event, we scrutinized the weather forecast. Claims of strong winds and heavy snowfall were posing big challenges. We considered postponing the jam, but with hopes for decreasing weather and confidence in our Terrain Park Program, on forth we went with the contest. The storm rolled in and out went the park CATs. Working endlessly through the night, park operators pushed and tilled the quickly falling snow. Winter weather continued to pound the slopestyle course come daybreak. The Terrain Park day crew slipped and raked rigorously as the course was prepped for the contest. The furry of snowflakes began to wain as the athletes began taking their practice laps. By contest start, the slope course and rail line were riding like butter. Whether luck, fate or the support of community...some how, some way, the 5th Annual Buckle Up Slopestyle Jam unfolded with impressive riding, cheers from the spectators, high fives among the competitors, and above all, love from all for their favorite sports. In the end, Sierra Resort's own athletes took many of the podium spots. Here are the results:

15 and Under Ski 1st Connor McKeen, 2nd Alec Bowman and 3rd Sid Leonard
16 and Over Ski 1st Trenton Heer, 2nd Wyatt Nickel and 3rd Joey Anderson
Women Ski 1st Maddie Bowman and 2nd Rebcca Roberts
Open Ski 1st Cesear Rodriguez, 2nd Colby Albino and 3rd Jason Arens
15 and Under Snowboard 1st Liam Loftis
16 and Over Snowboard 1st Zack, 2nd Nick Defressine and 3rd Danny
Women Snowboard 1st Julianne Brackett, Tasha Sagucka and 3rd Kaleah "Skittles" Driscoll
Open Snowboard 1st Scotty Hoffman, 2nd Nicki Weiss and 3rd Dustin Robinson
Many thanks to the supporters that made this special day happen, winter weather and all: GoPro, American River Shack, Sentury Snowboards, Moment Ski USA, Unkooth Youth, Von Zipper, South Shore Bikes, California Highway Patrol, Powder House, Lake Tahoe Community College, Rise Graphics and especially friends of the Smith family. Please, always wear your seatbelt and encourage your friends to do so as well.

Terrain Park Takeover Tuesday Session 17: Park Crew Cutting Loose with Design for One Hit Wonder

The guys at Snowboarder Magazine challenged Sierra's Terrain Parks Program to get creative with a single, multi-line hit for the One Hit Wonder contest held on March 12, 2011. What happens when you put our crew up to this sort of task? Feature design mastery and creativity! What resulted was a SIX line single feature incorporating the brand new dance floor, down flat down, a creeper lift tower rail, a tree bonk, a sizable center jump, another tree bonk, a flat box and finally a down rail. That's a lotta features! Check out the recap to see how the competitors laid it down. Congrats to winner and Sierra team rider Scotty Hoffman.

Terrain Park Takeover Tuesday Session 16: Is it Recording?

Here it is, the park boys' very own session of Terrain Park Takeover Tuesday. We're pretty dang lucky here at Sierra to have a family of talented filmers. Lane Power, with Wojtek Targosz as a stand in, has been the genius behind many of our TPTT videos. He has a way of making us look well spoken and sharp! This week, it was all up to the boys to capture the goods. Yeah, they can ride, but filming is a whole other ball game. How do you think they did? Are you a better amateur filmer? Prove it and we'll declare you champ! Upload your video to facebook.com/SierraAtTahoe.

Terrain Park Takeover Tuesday Session 11: Getting loose in The Aspens

Terrain Park Takeover Tuesday: Yeah, it's been spring-like out there, but not for long as this storm rolls in tough. Before winter returns, our shreds got down and nasty with the jump line in The Aspens. Quick laps over a large double jump line- exactly the recipe Terrain Parks wanted to stir up for the local boys to have fun.

Sierra Pros and Ams Dominate Dew Tour and Gatorade Free Flow Finals

There must be something in the Sierra Snow 'cause our athletes are on fire. Jamie Anderson once again secures herself as the Dew Cup reining Champ with two slopestyle firsts and a second in the 2010/2011 Dew Cup Series. And to further prove her contest-dominating season, Jamie just won the Arctic Challenge. Whatcha gonna do with all that cash Jamie?!

Seventeen year-old South Shore local Maddie Bowman charged the 22’ pipe at Dew Tour Championships to not only make it to Dew Tour Finals but to secure 4th place. Adding 9’s to her bag of tricks launches Maddie into the top level of female pipe skiing.

Julianne Brackett has built a reputation as Sierra Resort’s next female shred star by charging the Dew Tour slope course with vigor in the Gatorade Free Flow Finals. Congrats on your 2nd place Julianne!

Ready to explode on the ski slope scene are Sierra locals Cesar Rodriguez and Robbie Franco. Both turned heads during the Gatorade Free Flow Finals. Cesar landed his first contest switch 12 and Robbie put together a run legit enough to score him first place. See ya in the Dew Tour next year Robbie!

Released today is Tahoe Dangerzone Season 3, Episode 4 - "North Lake Vs. South Lake." Tahoe Dangerzone personality and Sierra team rider Nick Visconti brought his North Shore residing crew to Sierra on the opening day of The Alley. Terrain Parks designed The Alley to be a free-shredding playground. That's exactly how these boys took advantage of their recess time at Sierra - with a good 'ol fashioned game of S.N.O.. Our Amateurs Nikki Weiss, Scott Hoffman and Jordan Nield definetly gave Pros Sam Hulbert, Nick Visconti and Tim Eddy a run for their money.

Game of SNO unfolds during the opening of The Alley

Sierra team riders and Tahoe Dangerzone front man Nick Visconti presented us with a challenge we couldn't refuse: Game of S.N.O., North Shore vs. South Shore. The contenders rolled into The Alley on the park's opening day for the 2011 season. Typical Cali sun blazed down as defenders and offenders faced off on the mellow jump and down round bar. Dew Tour shred Sam Hulbert battled Sierra's Nikki Weiss on the jump. Spin for spin, grab for grab, these two were nearly perfectly matched up as they tried to out trick each other for hours. Meanwhile, Nickie Fresh represented North Shore shredders against South Lake's original Scotty Banger on the rail. Nick's jib skills are undeniable, but his knees were shaking in his tight pants as Scotty opened up his bag of tricks. Scotty found Nick's weakness with back 270's and cab 270's hardway. As the sun was settling, snow dominator Jordan Nield dropped into a downhill race against North Lake's Tim Eddy. Dying to know the final score? You'll just have to wait for the next episode of Tahoe Dangerzone, coming your way soon.

Volcom Peanut Butter and Rail Jam

Volcom once again rang in the New Year at Sierra yesterday with the Peanut Butter and Rail Jam. We're always stoked to host this event and each year we look forward to designing a fresh 3 feature set-up. This year, the theme was all about "trickery" with a mellow c box and 30' narrow down box. An urban style wall ride was thrown in to keep the kids on their toes. Big congrats to Sierra riders Julianne Bracket (1st place Women), Tre Charrette (5th 15 & Under) and Scotty Hoffman (4th place Open)! They threw down variety and steez to thwart off a competitive field of 110 riders.
