Sierra-at-Tahoe Resort Increases Mobile Efforts Print-version

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. – February 7, 2012 – Today over fifty percent of mobile phone users utilize a mobile device to retrieve real time information[i] and Sierra Resort has developed a comprehensive strategy to effectively communicate with this audience that includes a mobile website, text alerts, and two new mobile phone applications.

Currently there are more than five billion mobile subscribers, nine out of ten Americans have a mobile device, and over forty-five percent of those Americans have smartphones giving them access to hundreds of thousands of applications and internet right at their fingertips.[ii]

Sierra Resort has recognized the power of mobile and is proud to launch its very own mobile phone application and offer an additional phone application with Phresheez, both for free and both available in the iPhone App Store and Android Market.

Sierra-at-Tahoe Resort App

Skiers and riders can now have Sierra Resort webcams, snow reports, event details, and the trail map in the palm of their hands.

The mobile app includes a GPS enabled trail map, detailed mountain conditions, live webcams, rider generated videos, photos, and mountain challenges. The app gives users quick access to explore everything that is going on around them, locate where they are on the mountain, and explore where friends and other users are located. Using the app users can also get all the information they need to know about snow conditions, and customize what runs they want to see on the trail map.

The Sierra Resort app gives skiers and riders the ability to connect with their friends and other users by adding photos straight from their phone to the Sierra website, chat with other users about the best place to ride, and watch the latest Sierra videos and even upload their own.

Once the users day is finished, they can experience it all over again from their own desktop or laptop. Access the interactive map using any web browser and start organizing that next trip to Sierra Resort.

Sierra will offer Phresheez users a custom experience tailored to Sierra-at-Tahoe Resort. Phresheez allows users to clock their speed, track vertical drop and number of runs taken, compete with friends in SnowQuest games and earn awards for their Sierra-at-Tahoe trophy case. SnowQuest is a set of reality-based games that allows users to instantly view their standings and see who the “Top Dog” really is amongst their friends.

The two apps are available to Sierra guests and are the latest iteration of mobile technology following the successful launch of a mobile site and text alerts, which have been available since the 2009 winter season.
