Sierra-at-Tahoe Announces Lineup for Spring Music and Event Series

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - Feb. 17, 2015 - Sierra-at-Tahoe brings the second annual Equinox Spring Festival to the slopes beginning March 21. This free festival features live bands over three consecutive weekends, signature Sierra events for all ages and competitions on and off the mountain. Competitions including the Van's Hi-Standard Series and 9th Annual Buckle Up Big Air will be taking place on-mountain, while the 8th Annual Salsa Showdown will happen in the base area. The Equinox Spring Festival is a great opportunity for guests to enjoy spending time with friends and family on the Solstice Plaza and to celebrate the essence of spring in the Sierra.

Scott Pemberton and Sierra Jorts Party - Saturday, March 21, 2015

Portland, OR band, Scott Pemberton will kick off the Equinox Spring Festival with an upbeat, funk-rock set, bringing sounds of the Pacific Northwest. Having played recently in South Lake Tahoe, the band's unique style and infectious good vibes deem them a region favorite. During the day, all guests are encouraged to participate in the Sierra Jorts Party and jorts fashion show at 4:30 p.m. Jorts (jean shorts) are a mountain community phenomenon, known for providing maximum range of motion and earning satirical style points.  

Rainbow Girls and New Belgium's Slow Ride Competition - Saturday, March 28, 2015

All-lady group, Rainbow Girls brings electric folk-rock music to Sierra on the second weekend of the music series. Inspired and untied, Rainbow Girls have toured the West Coast and Europe extensively; they now bring their sounds to Sierra-at-Tahoe for the first time. In addition to boot-stomping music by the Rainbow Girls, New Belgium Brewing Company presents the Slow Ride Competition. Crafted after their Slow Ride Session IPA, New Belgium's Slow Ride Competition features miniature bicycles, in which competitors must pedal as slowly as possible without touching the ground with a limb in order to win.

The Family Crest and Sierra Pillow Fight - Saturday, April 4, 2015

San Francisco's up and coming favorite, The Family Crest will wrap up the music series with baroque-pop music and family-sized band of seven. Referring to auxiliary band members as "extended family," The Family Crest culture reflects that of Sierra-at-Tahoe, conveying a welcoming philosophy. To end the day, all guests can harness their inner child during the Sierra Pillow Fight to celebrate National Pillow Fight Day, taking place on the Solstice Plaza during the concert.

Vans Hi-Standard Series - Sunday, March 22, 2015

As a leader in the snowboarding industry for over 20 years, Vans created the Vans Hi-Standard series to bring snowboarding "back to basics." With strict regulations against rotations over 720 degrees, this  event allows for competitors to win by expressing individual style and creativity. This event is open to all snowboard competitors and participants will compete for $3,500 in cash and prizes.

8th Annual Salsa Showdown - Sunday, April 5, 2015

Keeping Sierra-at-Tahoe's quirky, laid-back vibe alive, the Salsa Showdown returns for the 8th time for a homemade salsa-tasting contest, live music by Candelaria and fun in the sun on the Solstice Plaza. Guests are invited to enter a homemade salsa for a chance to win a 2015-16 Sierra Season Pass and the title of Salsa Showdown King or Queen!

9th Annual Buckle Up Big Air - Saturday, April 11, 2015

Buckle Up Big Air (BUBA) is an annual slopestyle event in remembrance of Sierra Resort Athlete, Greg Taylor Smith. BUBA honors Greg's memory with a fun day on the slopes, his favorite place to be. This local's favorite event helps to raise awareness about seatbelt safety and the ever-present need to buckle up whenever you're in a car. Registration information for BUBA can be found here.
