Sierra-at-Tahoe Resort Hosts Equinox Spring Festival: A Spring Event Series Print-version

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. – March 5, 2014 – This spring Sierra-at-Tahoe Resort is celebrating the season, snow, sunshine, and good times with the Equinox Spring Festival. The Festival includes a concert series, events, parties, and more. The Equinox Spring Festival gives guests a great opportunity to enjoy the new plaza, listen to live music, reminisce about a great day on the mountain, and celebrate spring in the Sierra. The Equinox Spring Festival will kick off with a big party to welcome home our Olympians including 2014 gold medalists, Jamie Anderson and Maddie Bowman, and two-time Olympic medalist Hannah Teter. The festival kicks off March 15, 2014 and will conclude on the final week of the season.

A Golden Celebration and Plaza Grand Opening Party – Saturday, March 15, 2014

Sierra Resort will welcome home 2014 Olympians and team riders Jamie Anderson, Maddie Bowman, and Hannah Teter. All three athletes are now Olympic gold medalists and Sierra Resort representatives. They will join their hometown for a celebration where government officials and dignitaries will honor them in front of their friends and family. Autograph signings, live music, and a party will follow.

The celebration will take place on Sierra’s new plaza. The new $5 million project transforms the skier services and amenities area into a mecca for gathering, après, and services. Guests will experience a 30,000 square-foot deck where they can relax in the sun and watch the action on the slopes. Along with a new deck area, guests can enjoy the new 9,000 square-foot indoor facility that includes, a retail store, demo center, and fresh healthy food options at the Solstice Eatery.

The Soft White Sixties with Vokab Kompany ­– Saturday March 22, 2014.

Kicking off the Live at Grandview Music Series, The Soft White Sixties and Vokab Kompany will rock the stage with alternative music that everyone can enjoy. Having played the main stage at San Francisco’s Outside Lands Music Festival, The Soft White Sixties are increasingly gaining recognition for their infectious live performances. Local favorite, Vokab Kompany combines multiple sounds that are perfect for a dance party and will open the concert series.

Hot Buttered Rum with The CreakSaturday, April 5, 2014

Guests can free their heels all day long at the 11th annual Telegrass Festival where they can learn to telemark or improve their current skills with telemark clinics and demonstrations. Once they have mastered their telemark turns, guests can free their minds with bluegrass music from Hot Buttered Rum and The Creak. Hot Buttered Rum has played at some of the largest festivals in the United States and will bring their infectious sound to Sierra-at-Tahoe Resort. The Creak plays an action packed mix of bluegrass music that will be sure to make guests smile.

Midi Matilda with Tracorum – Saturday, April 12, 2014

Straight from San Francisco, Midi Matilda features Logan Grime and Skyler Kilborn who use soaring falsetto’s, driving rhythms, and a fresh mix of guitars, bass and synthesizers, giving them a unique sound that will have guests dancing along and smiling all afternoon. Tracorum is a band from San Francisco with an original sound that thrives when played live.


8th Annual Buckle Up Big Air – Saturday, April 12, 2014

The Buckle Up Big Air slopestyle event, in remembrance of Sierra Resort team rider, Greg Taylor Smith, is held annually to honor Greg's memory with a fun day on the slopes. This local's favorite event not only spreads good vibes throughout the day, but also raises awareness about seat belt safety and the ever-present need to buckle up. Riders will celebrate Smith’s spirit by participating in a slopestyle event that promotes fun, progression, and safety. All proceeds go toward the Sierra-at-Tahoe Education Foundation.

7th Annual Salsa Showdown – Sunday, April 13, 2014

The final event of the Equinox Spring Festival, the Salsa Showdown, exemplifies the Sierra spirit. Quirky, fun, and unique guests are invited to make their own salsa and impress the judges for a chance to win a 2014-15 season pass and the title of Salsa Showdown king. The contest is rounded out with a taco eating contest, live mariachi band, and lots of south-of-the-border-fun designed to celebrate the outdoor atmosphere and laid back vibe of spring at Sierra Resort.
