Project: Green Sierra Pledge

Be Part of the Solution

New for the 2008.09 season, environmentally conscious skiers and snowboarders can join Project: Green Sierra to become Part of the Solution. By signing the Project: Green Sierra pledge, season passholders promise to take tangible steps toward reducing their personal impact on the environment.

The mission of Project: Green Sierra is to involve our guests in initiatives that will increase appreciation, awareness and, most importantly, action toward conservation of our environment so that we may all see tangible results from our behaviors.

To help further our mission, Sierra-at-Tahoe® Resort has partnered with the Sacramento Tree Foundation to help raise awareness of the substantial benefits that come with a healthy tree canopy. The STF has set a goal to plant 5 million new trees in the region by the year 2025.

We all need to make a commitment. To each other, to our children, and to this giant, spinning ball we call home. Pledge to take the following steps to Be Part of the Solution and help keep Sierra green!

Once 1,000 Sierra Resort passholders have signed the following pledge, Sierra Resort will donate $1,000 to the Sacramento Tree Foundation to help get those 5 million trees planted!

I pledge to:

  • REDUCE my overall consumption of resources. I will do this by:
    • Carpooling to Sierra Resort or taking the shuttle when I can
    • Turning off my car when I arrive at Sierra Resort to eliminate idle time

  • REUSE things when and where I can. I will do this by:
    • Using a refillable water bottle and coffee mug
    • Saving shopping bags to use as lunch bags or using canvas bags
    • Sending my old skis and snowboards to a second-hand shop rather than the landfill

  • RECYCLE plastic, paper and aluminum every single time. I will do this by:
    • Finding a recycle container for ALL my recyclables EVERY time
    • Picking up trash on the mountain so it doesn’t end up in a stream when the snow melts
    • Buying post-consumer content products when I can
