I have been skiing here since I was 8 years old, and in my 7 years of skiing, Sierra has always been a great experience.  It is definetly better than any Tahoe resort because you can find any type of run you want - trees (top 10 in the US), bumps, steep groomed runs...plus there's the awesome staff and great food.  So, all in all, if you want something while skiing, Sierra is guaranteed to have it.

Two weeks ago, I had the chance to do a winemaker's luncheon at the Grand View Lodge on the slopes of Sierra at Tahoe.  It was a small, personal luncheon pairing five of our wines with Sierra's great barbeque.  It was a steal at $15/person.  But the best part was the view.  From atop the lodge on this crystal clear day, I could see the entire Lake Tahoe basin one way and the coastal range looking the other way.  It was spectacular!  If you haven't made it up skiing this year yet, the snow is great and the view even better!

I have skied all of (South Lake Tahoe) for many years. I must say that Sierra has more steep terrain & consistently more snow.  Our family prefers Sierra over (the other resorts) by far.  Sierra has more steep tree skiing/boarding & is just generally more fun.

As a snow snob, storm tracking, powder hound, I put the rest of my life on hold when a good storm hits.  I live for powder days, especially on stormy days.

I've been to all the Tahoe resorts and adopted Sierra-at-Tahoe as my "home resort" because it delivers!  Sierra absolutely has the best and longest tree skiing lines in all of Tahoe, which is so important on a storm day. Without trees, you're essentially in a white-out, unable to see much of anything. Sierra's trees provide much needed contrast during blizzard conditions, as well as excellent wind protection.  This enables continuous choking-on-powder-while-grinning-ear-to-ear runs all day!

My second favorite Sierra attraction are the abundance of "pillows."  I've never been to a resort that has more snow covered boulders everywhere.  On a good powder day (and even 3 days after a storm), you can launch off pillow after pillow, and enjoy soft landings almost every time.  It's heaven!

Sierra has the goods.  On storm days, it's the place to be.

I've been snowboarding at Sierra for years. I usually go on midweek powder days. At Sierra, you can get fresh tracks all day in the trees. Most other resorts get tracked out by noon. You guys have by far the best tree runs of any resort in Tahoe. I have a friend who would only go to Sugar Bowl on powder days, and one perfect day, I was driving, and when we hit the hwy 50/80 split, and I took the 50 toward Sierra. He goes "what are you doing?!. I said "I'm driving, we're going to Sierra." He was upset, until we dropped into our first tree run from Grandview, carving perfect powder in the trees from top to bottom, getting spit out right near the chair. At the bottom, he says "wow, let's keep doing that one", and I said, "that's just one of about twenty or thirty top to bottom tree runs here." Long story short ,by the end of the day Sierra was,and is, his new powder day spot.

And the backcountry stuff is unreal, and extends any good freshies as it's usually not open the first day after a good dump.So even when in bounds is tracked out , you can still get fresh for a couple more days in the backcountry.  The only thing that would improve the resort is if they could do another chair off the back area of west bowl, where there's some insane semi out of bounds terrain that you have to hike out of if you do it.

Overall , an awesome resort.

I just wanted to let you know what a wonderful time my wife and I had at your resort last winter.  We skied 3 days at Sierra while we were in the Tahoe area on vacation and it was a great experience.  We both took private lessons, her on alpine equipment and I on telemark equipment.  The instructors were very professional, courteous, and had a wealth of knowledge.  I found it particularly wonderful that I was able to take a telemark lesson.  Being from the midwest there really isn't any opportunity local for such an experience.  Thank you again for a great vacation and I look forward to visiting your resort again soon.

I've been skiing the Sierra for over 30 yrs. now and have settled on my favorite resort, Sierra at Tahoe. Best of the closest skiing to the Bay Area. I'm on skis 3 hours and 15 minutes from walking out of my house. Sierra has the best groomers! Alway perfection! Everything at the mountain is so convenient, from the parking lot to the ski in ski out bathrooms.  I love that all the staff is very friendly, accomodating, and welcoming. I always feel great after a day there. I had a flat on day after skiing and a passing employee changed my tire! Awsome! They really go the extra mile to give you a great skiing experience. I love Sierra!

My wife and I learned to ski at Sierra back when it was still called Sierra Ski Ranch. After taking time to get married, jobs and start a family, our happy memories as kids encouraged us to bring our own kids back to ride the Tahoe King.  Little did we know that the old "ranch" is now the new Sierra that is even more welcoming and family friendly. After the 4th season in a row, we are happy to report the Sierra Ski School has taught all 3 of my boys to ski and with one more on the way we won't mind making the 16 hour drive from Arizona next season (or Spring break if I'm lucky!) to ski the friendliest slopes in the Sierras.

Gretchen's son's English assignment:

"Sierra at Tahoe, aside from some lucky girl, is my true love. The beautiful views, the mesmerizing sounds, the hypnotizing feels, the astonishing aromas and the taste of a ski resort. Whether your there to shred the powder like a pro, or hang out and have a good time, you know you’re going to feel the love. So bask in it, bask in the sights, the scents, the sounds and the tastes. How it feels, I mean all of it. If you experience Sierra at Tahoe, you just can’t get enough...."  Read on >

Very helpful, friendly employees.  I signed my son up for a snowboard lesson.  The instructor greeted us, and immediately engaged my son.  I felt very comfortable leaving him in the capable hands of your staff.  Sierra at Tahoe really takes care of their students.  We will definitely be back, and recommend you to all our friends!
