JillEvansJill Evans

By age 4 I knew more than a part of life, skiing is a way of life!  With the past 26 years as a ski gypsy living with backyard playgrounds such as Telluride and Vail in Colorado, Jackson Hole, Wyoming, and most recently Sierra-at-Tahoe,  I’ve been provided the opportunity for a unique education: PSIA-RM Level 3, AIARE Level 2, PSIA-W Cs1, PSIA-I DECL, & PSIA-W Tech Team.  I also look forward to representing the Western region @PSIA National Demo Team tryouts as a current member of PSIA-W’s regional team.

Sierra offers the best beginner terrain in the area, as well as great trees and off-piste.

Jill's Tree Skiing Tip:

Trees can be intimidating, but so much fun!  When riding in trees, shape your turn for speed control by curling your skis under or around the tree (following the line of the tree well).  While your legs are steering around, keep your core moving forward at a slight angle towards your next turn.

Sean WarmanSean Warman

In addition to being a ski instructor Sean is also Sierra's new Competition Services Manager. Sean has 30 seasons of experience working in ski education and coaching.

Sean's Tip:

Use your feet! Your feet are the connection to your skis and are where the fine tuning is done. The feet should tip the skis to their edge to start the turn. This should be the first action to engage the skis.

Snowboard Instructors

Gonzalo VidelaGonzalo Videla

Hello, my name is Gonzalo Videla, also known as Gonzo here at Sierra.  I’m a certified AASI Level 3 and I’ve been teaching for 12 seasons.  I really enjoy what I do and I’ve met so many people over the years.  Unbelievable!!   For me, the last 7 seasons on the North Hemisphere and working at Sierra-at-Tahoe® Resort has been FUN!!! Awesome hill atmosphere.  I really feel a part of it.

Gonzalo's trick tip: Backside 180

This is an awesome trick.  Easy to learn and adding style while you are getting there.

  • Relax body, smily face
  • Flat board on the take off
  • Pop a big sweet ollie
  • Smoothly start rotating those sholders on the air but keep spotting your landing straight ahead
  • Three quarters of the way through it, look in between your feet to check the exact landing (grap indy!!!)
  • Make sure that you stomp it  like you own it and ride away!

Nancy NgNancy Ng

I first started teaching at Sierra in December 1998 when I moved to Tahoe “for the winter”- I haven’t left!  I got my Level 1, 2 and 3 certifications in my first 3 seasons teaching.  Sierra is my home, I love to teach here on the best bunny hill anywhere, in the pipe, in the parks, in the powder or on any other part of the mountain!

Nancy's Trick Tip: Frontside 360 in the pipe

  1. Get comfortable going at least to the lip of the pipe for the whole length of the pipe.
  2. Practice frontside 180s on a groomed run, starting from a toeside carve, landing in a switch toeside carve.
  3. If it’s available, practice those same 180s up a banked wall off a groomed run, going up the wall and then landing switch coming back down.
  4. Take it to the pipe, going up the frontside wall, spinning the board around, and landing switch on the wall coming back across the pipe.

Kati MannistoKati Mannisto

My name is Kati and I come from the land of snow & reindeer, also known as Finland!  I’ve been teaching mainly at the Remarkables in New Zealand, but have also done some casual teaching in Ruka in Finland.  Sierra has some awesome teaching terrain from beginners to advanced, from carvers to park rats.  And with big dumps of snow and sunshine how could you go wrong?

Kati's favorite trick:  Butters

Flatland fun.  Lift up the nose of your board and see it.  You can spin on your tail!

Luca AlbrisiLuca Albrisi

I’m Luca Albrisi.  I was born in Milan, Italy.  Five years ago I moved to Trento, a beautiful city surrounded by The Dolomite Alps in Northern Italy. I have worked for three winter seasons in Madonna Di Campigio, Italy and for five summer seasons in Tignes’ Glacier, France.  I am enthusiastic to be working at Sierra because of its world class terrain, parks and fabulous freeriding.  Sierra crew is friendly and chilled.  Being here is like being at home.

Luca's Trick Tip: Shifty Baskside to 180 front side

This trick is very nice and pretty easy.  Once you take off, make a shifty backside by the contortion of the upper part of your body.  Keep arms and shoulders in the same position and when you decide to do the 180 frontside, just let the lower part of your body (so the board) keep your trunk position.

Evan Carter

My name is Evan Carter from Australia.  I have 6 full season of teaching experience, two of which have been at Sierra.  I’m qualified through AASI and enjoy the challenge of teaching all age groups and abilities from 1st timers to advanced and freestyle.

Evan's tip for beginner riders:

Keep your knees bent, back straight and eyes looking where you are going.  Rock n Roll!!
